Be sober. Be vigilant! (Wednesday, January 6, 2008)

February 3, 2008

Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset–rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world. 1 Peter 5: 8-9

People, even faith people sometimes are easily thrown off guard. I’ve seen it. I’ve been amazed. The devil lays these little traps and they are effective merely because we need to be more sober, more vigilant. The shut off notice I received many years ago on my gas bill where I needed $600 in 24 hours, a credit denial on furniture that I convinced myself that I needed years ago, the broken toes, the twisted and sprained ankles, the car accidents, the poor planning, the lack of savings, the procrastination; all leading to major challenges that did not have to be. Things that led to poor health, hospital runs, disagreements, panic attacks…all did not have to be.

All because I did not know any better! There’s so much that we can prevent. So much that we can avoid. So much… Think about it.
